While tourism is one of the pillar industries in Catalonia, it also causes the increase in rental prices, the lack of housing resources for the locals, as well as evictions of tenants in extreme cases. It left us with the consequence that more and more people find themselves being marginalized outside of the city and even some live in the street, while tons of houses being there, empty, waiting to be sold. In one sentence, 'people without house, houses without people.'
The ongoing Catalan housing movement is making the continuous effort to fight for the housing rights of the locals, who work and live in the city. It is also the very moment we shall ponder on the question: "Who has the right to a house?" and "How the capitalization and commercialization of houses deprive its human meaning of being a home where people live and enjoy life?"
This project would focus on the evictions taking place around the city, as an approach to provoke thoughts on the housing right for all, and the balance between tourism industry and accessible housing for the local in Catalonia.
